Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgement

You know what? I was actually reaaaaaly SAD when I finished this game. Why? Because it’s really awesome! I mean, it’s only 14.99$ on PSN network for full version (around 700mb to download), but it gives you so much fun, that some people say they would pay 60$ for it. Graphics are not very high-end, but they are pretty good. Gameplay looks pretty much like disgaea, only much more cute characters.. And at least it looks like a game for PS3! Not like Disgaea 3, 3rd generation console game that looks like PS2 1998 year game
So if you are into Strategic RPG’s… You should really try that
Check out the review by zeitgeistvideos

I agree with you that the price makes it worth buying. A few hours of laughing but then it ends.
I think the review by zeitgeist is way off but maybe I just expect more. The music for example…didn´t take me many fights to turn it off. Cleared the map pretty fast and reached the research facility where I was outmatched. Been trying to “grind skill ups” in the former maps but,- I´ve had the game for 3 days and it is not that funny anymore.
At first I went for every little treasure box I saw to try to increase my income to get better gear for the grp.
I say it takes 2-3 hours to clean the map. Have the best gear and around 40-50.000 gold.
Since I can´t complete the research facility atm I am stuck to do old/former missions over and over till the skills is high enough to beat the “boss”.
But I agree it is quite enjoyable and admit I might play it again sometime. Doubt it though. Didn´t purchase the ps3 to look at “lego”
Yo dude thanks for this good comment
Well yeah I agree this game some shitty parts like some music, faces and stuff.. But hey it’s only 15$ and since you played it 3 days already.. It shows it still catch you a little
I couldn’t stand playing ffxiii for more than a day!! so that says something, lol
Yeah exactly. But I am looking for “more”. Infact I will head to the shops and buy Demon´s Souls AND Dragon Age as soon as I finished my coffee!
What I normally love about rpgs ( wether it´s tactical or hack n slash ) is that once you played it you feel like “WOOOAW I got to make another character with another armor/wep set so I can go medieval on those *beep*”
But with Vandal Hearts.. it just inspired me to go get a better game! heh
In this genre I think an old-timer like the XCOM series ( Terror from the deep etc. ) is so much better. OR Fallout before they turned it into a 3dshooter ( CRY!!!! ).
And if it´s the style then…Baldurs Gate!
But for Vandal Hearts… you find 2 mobs… a healer and a melee charater. You put a melee close for slapping the melee around ( if hps get low then damage the healer a bit! ) then the healer will use his turn to raise the hps of the melee. And the melee will hit your “tank”.
This allows for endless skillups
But Nicklas… you´re right. It IS kind of catchy
AAAARGH xD
I would get it but I want a disk…
and it isn’t exclusive
Well man it’s up to you, just keep in mind that you’re missing a really nice game
Well as a rule of thumb, if a game company focuses more on the money than the game (making it multi platform) than the game is usually not as good as it can be and I buy it used. Being on PSN I can’t buy it used and I love physical copies. (Don’t you like em more?)
Now if they developed it for one console and later ported it to another (bioshock) than I might buy it new. I just hate how games are coming out on anything. It defeats the purpose of consoles if I can just play everything on a pc. Or if pretty much all games are non-exclusive than you might as well buy the cheapest console.
My favorite ps3 games are exclusive
My favorite 360 games are exclusive
My favorite ps2 games are exclusive
My favorite wii games are exclusive
My favorite N64 games are exclusive etc
and its not because there exclusive. It because I like those games more and that is probably because they focused on the game instead of the money and so I buy them used so they don’t get the money.
What do you think?
This game looks at lot like Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. I played fire emblem on my wii. Think i bought it for like 50 bucks when it barely came out, i got ripped now that i compare it to to downloadable game for $10. and this downloadable game looks even better than the fire emblem i played although the story line was pretty awesome on Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn.
I could not disagree more. This game should only be $2.99 and that’s generous! The author of this article obviously has not been playing SRPGs for long. I can tell because of the review.
To have negative comments about Disgaea is laughable. Disgaea revolutionized SRPGs, what’s next? Is this amateur going to start slacking off Final Fantasy Tactics too?
Don’t trust everything you hear in reviews. People new to the genre don’t have a clue what they are talking about. VH is absolutely terrible. I strongly recommend looking into other SRPGs before you purchase this trainwreck of a game.
Anonymous999, thanks for open comment
Well, I have to admit, I’m not a hardcore player. I’m more casual type: start playing, get bored fast. With Vandal Hearts it didn’t happen – maybe because the game is fast and short. With Disgaea 2 on PS2 – well, I really tried to enjoy that game. I played like 30-40hours, and after that it got soooo repetitive and boring! Wanna increase your Item level? Here you go: 20 same looking levels with same type monsters..
Anyway there is always two sides of the fence. I’d like to see what you have to say about Vandal Hearts, why you dislike it so much.
P.S. All these “Reviews” are just my humble opinion, as stated in the header of the blog..
Your review convinced me to buy this game. You were right, this is really fun. I’m enjoying it very much. Thanks for the tip.
WOW I cant believe they have this I remember playing Vandal earts 2 on ps1. That game was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i have never played a game like that ever. i mean the story, the weapons the characters the weird landscapes that floated on the screen and the angles they put them on were just perfectly harmonized. i want to buy a PS3 just for this game. I dont have one and didnt want one, but man this game is so worth it for me!!!!
yeah i like a good tactical rpg, but I just hate the 3D junk and no cool magic…when you are able to buy FFT for only 9.99 I find this game to be hardly a bargain in comparison…I just wish they could go with a shining force style gameplay….. remember…? that awesome style it is a normal guy then once you move to attack or magic it would move into a sweet cut scene. That was such a good formula wut happpend… basically I would have been more into it if it were 2d with more colors to look at then dull 3D shaded boxes…seriously where’s the color..
Thanks for this review, was not sure about the game before, got it and have to say I enjoyed it a lot !
I love these types of tactical RPG games.
I don’t know why this hasn’t been mentioned, maybe you guys are just to young to know but this is actually the Third Vandal Hearts game made…The first two, for playstation 1 were REALLY good RPGs for the time developed by Konami. This is definite buy for anyone that enjoys TRPGs (I know I do) or has played the VH series before.
I remember the old series. Vandal heart 1 was my 1st purchase, and purpose to get a PS1, despite FFVII around, I just liked Konami’s Vandal heart and suikoden better. However, got tired of 2 before finishing, and this one is just too repetitive. I don’t know if it’s me who have changed, but I just didn’t like it anymore after about the mines, and that’s not very far.
This game looks fuckin pish!! why make a game on the ps3 which is capable of 1080i HD graphic input and make a shitey grid game made for the ps1!! this is childs play! u want a good rpg.. i advise two worlds 2 or dragon age !
This game is a decent game all around, but it’s an insult to Vandal Hearts and Vandal Hearts 2. I’d still recommend it if you never played those games back in the 90′s, BUT if you did don’t bother with this game.
Good solid game, but the last boss is a bitch. I’m sure the vessel of toroah was actually weaker than normal Tobias
any tips for beating the last boss?
This game looks like a game I would enjoy the first chance I get I will download and play it. However what I want to see is a PS3 Final Fantasy Tactics. Not a remake but a whole new tactics game I still have FFT for PS1 and I still play the hell out of it. I tried FFXIII but I think I put 3 or 4 hours into it and sent it back to gamefly. I don’t know maybe the tactical RPG is just my style of game but this one looks good to me.
